Texas is experiencing such a massive construction boom that it promises to turn the “Lone Star State” (the historical symbol of Texas) into the number one center of world microelectronics.
Texas is strongly associated with cowboys, prairies, countless herds and oil fields. However, this state has long been no stranger to high technology. After all, it was Jack Kilby, an engineer at the local company Texas Instruments (TI), who invented the world’s first integrated circuit in 1958, marking the beginning of microelectronics as such. Although until 1952, this company, as befits a Texas industrial company, was engaged in the production of equipment for oil fields. However, it managed to navigate new trends and seriously engaged in the production of silicon transistors.
Already in 1954, TI released a popular pocket transistor radio. Well, by our time, this company has managed to become a recognized leader in the production of analog microcircuits. Texas Instruments currently has three factories in Texas: two in Richardson and one in Dallas. All factories produce chips on cutting-edge 300mm wafers. In Sherman, construction began on four new factories in 2022. The first of these factories is expected to begin production in 2025.
