Texas is America’s energy powerhouse. As we mentioned earlier, it is the largest producer of crude oil and natural gas in the country.
It accounts for 42% of crude oil production and 27% of natural gas production nationwide. Texas also refines about a third of the oil in the United States each year.
Note that wind power has overtaken nuclear and coal power generation in Texas over the past few decades. The state is the leader in electricity production in all of these segments.
While Texas is also a leader in energy consumption, a lot of the fuel is used to fuel its industry. So that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Texas is considered a leader in renewable energy. It is home to many large wind farms.
